it’s easy to think of the ancient egyptians as living at the dawn of civilisation and ourselves as living closer to the end of it, but on a universal scale, we are still the ancient egyptians.

one day i was talking with an old friend on the phone when out of the blue he mentioned we live for less than 1 million hours and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it ever since, so naturally i figured i’d impart some of this existential dread on all of you folks. i’m pretty sure i’ve already spent at least 1/700th of my existence playing rome: total war.

calm down sedna, it could be worse. you could be an awkward 24 year-old whose only accomplishments are learning to watch anime without subtitles and drawing a space webcomic barely anyone reads. …not that i know anyone like that. ◑.◑

fact: anything you can completely cover with your thumb does not at all matter (i.e. literally everything if you stand back far enough). it’s called the jim lovell principle, and it’s definitely a real thing that i didn’t make up just now. ◑.◑

after one of my first ever days of school i turned to my mum and asked in a voice of pure desperation “you mean i have to do this for 13 years?!”, and she’s never let me hear the end of it. to be fair, 19 years later and i still stand by 5-year-old me. it really did suck as much as i thought it would.

make sure not to forget the whirlybirds (or “attic fans” as some boring people like to call them) when drawing buildings in australia, they’re a quintessential part of our culture.
