it’s easy to think of the ancient egyptians as living at the dawn of civilisation and ourselves as living closer to the end of it, but on a universal scale, we are still the ancient egyptians.
also if you’re baffled by how long 100 trillion years is and want me to put it into perspective: imagine 1 trillion years. now multiply that by 100. there.
sedna: a lot of people think the universe is ancient, but it’s only 13.8 billion years old.
dini: a-are you sure you know what the word “only” means?
sedna: i mean stars will probably keep being born for another 100 trillion years, meaning the universe is still just 0.001% of the way through its life-supporting life.
sedna: so even if we’re alone in the universe right now, maybe trillions of years in the future there will be aliens who look back at us as the founders of civilisation in the universe.
sedna: …which is why it’s super important we leave behind evidence of who we are.
